Hello , Hi there and welcome to the next edition of the HBHW newsletter. We made it through a week of that seemed like solid rain and are finally seeing some sunshine today.
We had a bit of a mishap this past weekend. Our water heater decided to leak. Thankfully my amazingly
handy husband was able to fix it and the water damage has been repaid. I guess it's time to start saving up for a new one though. (On that note, if you happen to feel like buying one of my cookbooks or kindle books, I'd be ever so grateful).
Let's get into this week's newsletter. The "I'm looking for" requests are going well. Thanks so much for the wonderful recipes you

I’m looking for a recipe for some baked rolls that contained a ground beef and cabbage filling inside a lovely, soft yeast roll. If I recall correctly, the name looked/sounded German (and my mom’s family is originally from Germany), but I can’t recall what the name of it was. Hope you or other readers can help me
out!

- 1 c sugar
- 1 c white vinegar
- 1 cup
ketchup
- ½ tsp cayenne pepper
- ½ tsp celery seeds
- 3 heads of cabbage
Combine the the sugar, vinegar, ketchup, cayenne pepper and celery seeds in a medium sauce pan. Heat over medium heat and simmer until it starts to thicken. Allow the mixture to cool. In the meantime, shred your cabbage. Pour the cooled dressing over the cabbage and mix until everything is well coated.

Dump cakes are so quick and easy to make because usually it’s just a matter of dumping (hence the name dump cake) the ingredients into a baking dish and putting in the oven. Sometimes the recipe will require you to mix the ingredients, but usually you don’t want to mix them.

Checking Yeast for Freshness
There’s a simple test you can do to see if your yeast still rises properly. All you need is a 2 cup glass measuring up, some warm water, sugar and your dry yeast. This works for packets of yeast as well as that jar of breadmaker yeast you’ve had hanging out in the back of the fridge.
If you have it, a thermometer will come in handy too. Best of all, you can use the yeast from this taste in your baking
right away. You’re just giving it a little head start with this simple test.

Yeast Freshness
Test
- Pour 1/2 cup of warm water into your glass measuring cup. You want the water to be pretty warm, but not hot. If you have a thermometer handy, aim for 110F.
- Add one tsp of sugar and stir until it’s dissolved.
- Pour in one 1/4oz packet of dry yeast, or 2 1/4 tsp breadmaker yeast and stir until combined.
- Allow the yeast to sit and proof for 10 minutes. It will start to bubble up.
- Fresh yeast will bubble up to the 1 cup
marking.
- If your yeast bubbles up to the 1 cup level, go ahead and use it in your recipe, omitting the 1/2 cup of liquid from the original recipe.
If the yeast doesn’t bubble up to at least close to the 1 cup level, discard it and go get a fresh batch at the store.

Eat For A Week From The Freezer
You know I’m not a big fan of Once a Month (OAM) cooking. I do however love freezer cooking and often make double and triple batches of things to freezer. There are also some days and even weeks when I know we’ll be super busy. It’s nice to be able to plan ahead for those times and freeze some meals. I did quite a bit of prepping when I was pregnant with my daughter, to have easy meals for the first few weeks after bringing
her home.
Today I have a great free download for you. It’s a new short report (or small ebook) full of yummy freezer recipes. It has an entire week’s worth of dinners that you can prep ahead of time.
I’ve also included a shopping list and some tips for planning. Fix everything at once, spread it out over 2 or three nights, or grab just one or two recipes to try.

That's it from me for this week. We finally have some sunshine and I'm looking forward to heading out to the garden as soon as I get this newsletter mailed out to you. Our tomatoes are looking great, as does the Okra. We're having a little trouble getting our cucumber plants to grow, but it's early enough in the season to replant. I'm having the most fun
watching my radishes grow though. They come up and grow so fast. It won't be long before they are ready to harvest and enjoy.
