8 slices toasted bread, cut into cubes
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup nonfat milk
2 large eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup, packed, raisins
While preheating oven to 350 degrees, melt butter in a pie dish and grease the sides of it.
In a large bowl, mix the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla
and raisins.
Add the bread to the mixture and allow it to soak up the liquid.
Pour the bread mixture into the greased pie dish.
Bake for 30-45 minutes.
To tell you the truth, we don't just have it for dessert. I've been known to serve this for breakfast on a Saturday morning as well. Very good with a hot cup of coffee and a little drizzle of maple syrup.
The
recipe is from my
35 Homemade Bread Recipes Kindle book. I picked a few of my all-time favorite recipes including traditional bread, quick breads, rolls and a couple of recipes that use leftover bread. If you like the bread recipes on my blog, you'll love this simple little cookbook.
Through the end of the day today, it's a free Kindle download.
