[HBHW News] Perfect Pies and 1940s Egg Custard Pie

Published: Wed, 10/24/12

Hello ,

The weeks are just zooming by here lately. I can't believe it's time for another newsletter edition already. The days are shorter and much colder. Halloween is almost here and that means it won't be long before we start celebrating Thanksgiving (here in the US) and then of course Christmas.

Our featured article this week is about the basics of pie baking. There are probably as many tricks for pie baking as there are bakers, but even with just a few tips, anyone can bake a perfect pie. Speaking of which... this week's featured recipe is another family favorite, an Old-fashioned Egg Custard Pie.

This week's quote and poem are both about the 'fires' of fall. Whether it's figurative, like the blaze orange and reds of the trees, or actual, like bonfires, the autumn months are definitely a time to sit back, relax, and take in all the splendor of the season. Please take a moment to read and enjoy.

Here's today's edition of the newsletter:

I had a lot of fun putting this together for you and I hope you enjoy it as well. Please take a moment to look through the "I'm Looking for " requests and help a reader out with a recipe if you can. Of course you are always welcome to also share a frugal recipe or tip.

Warm Regards,
Susanne - The Hillbilly Housewife

P.S.  If you get a chance to read through the pie kindle book this week (and maybe even bake something out of it), would you take a moment to review it on Amazon? I appreciate it.
